Century Garage Door Repair Service works out of Airport Rd in Hyannis, beside Cape Cod Gateway Airport, and covers the whole Town of Barnstable from here. Hyannis is the largest of Barnstable’s seven villages, and we take calls across all of them: Barnstable Village and West Barnstable up on the Route 6A side, Centerville, Osterville, Cotuit and Marstons Mills to the west and south, along with Hyannis Port next door.
Two things separate a door here from the same door inland. The first is the air. Every part of a garage door that carries load is steel, and salt-bearing air pits those surfaces and gets into the small precision bearings inside the rollers. FEMA’s own guidance on coastal construction records accelerated corrosion as far as five to ten miles inland, and notes that the longer a surface stays damp through the daily swing in humidity, the faster it corrodes. Sitting a couple of miles from open Nantucket Sound, we are well inside that band.
The second is the winter, and it is the opposite of what people expect. Hyannis is milder than the inland parts of the state, but that is precisely the problem. It sees around a hundred and eight nights below freezing a year, yet only about eighteen days that stay frozen the whole time. That means most winter days it crosses freezing and back again. Water gets into a bottom seal, a track joint or a roller bearing, freezes overnight, thaws by afternoon and does it again tomorrow. Inland towns that simply stay frozen for weeks do not put hardware through that cycle anything like as often.
In ZIP 02601, which covers Hyannis, the median home dates to 1976 and roughly two thirds of the housing predates 1980, so a great deal of what we see is original hardware that has been through forty-odd winters of exactly that.
Door will not move, spring gone, hardware seized with rust? Give us a call. We are on Airport Rd, the common parts ride on the truck, and most Hyannis calls get a same-day window.
Tell us the sound it makes, where the door stops, and whether the motor runs at all. If the property has been empty a while, say so, because that changes what we expect to find. Most calls get a same-day window.
Springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges, track, opener and safety sensors all get checked for corrosion as well as wear, plus a manual balance test with the door disconnected so we can see what it actually weighs.
You get the findings and the number up front. Parts that can safely wait are flagged as optional rather than bundled in. Anything genuinely unsafe gets explained plainly, without pressure.
Springs in matched pairs, worn rollers and frayed cables replaced, track realigned, hardware re-torqued. Common parts ride on the truck, so the large majority of jobs close out on the first visit.
The door is cycled under power and by hand, auto-reverse is tested against an obstruction, and the photo eyes are confirmed aligned. We run that test in front of you before we pack up.
