Century Garage Door Repair Service works from Harris Pike in Independence, just off Madison Pike near Simon Kenton High School. The town exists because of a county line. When Kenton County was carved out of Campbell County in 1840, local farmer John McCollum gave land at the center of the new county for its seat, and the name Independence marked the break. The state incorporated the town in 1842, and the courthouse a mile up Madison Pike still makes it one of Kenton County’s two seats, shared with Covington on the river.
For more than a century it stayed a crossroads village of a few hundred people, 285 of them in 1950. Then the subdivisions arrived. Independence passed 7,900 residents by 1980 and 14,900 by 2000, and reached 28,676 in 2020, making it the third largest city in Northern Kentucky. The housing follows that curve. The median home was built in 1999, about a third of all homes went up between 2000 and 2009 alone, and roughly two in three date from 1990 or later. About 85 percent are detached single-family houses and 84 percent are lived in by their owners, so most of the doors we work on are double steel doors that came with the house.
Weather here arrives hard and fast. On the 2nd of March 2012 an EF4 tornado with winds estimated at 175 mph crossed southern Kenton County a few miles below town near Piner, killed four people and destroyed 88 homes in the county. Banklick Creek, which winds through the north side of the city, set its flood of record in July 1962, damaged more than 120 buildings along its course during the 1990s and flooded again in July 2013, after which federal money was set aside to buy out about 30 homes on the creek downstream. Doppler radar has flagged hail over Independence more than 70 times, golf-ball size on several of those days.
Spring snapped, door hanging crooked, opener clicking and going nowhere? Give us a call. We are on Harris Pike, the common parts ride on the truck, and most Independence calls get a same-day window.
Tell us what the door is doing, what you heard and whether the opener still runs. If something hit the door, a photo helps us bring the right parts. Most Independence calls get a same-day window.
We go over the springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges, track, opener and photo eyes, then pull the release and lift the door by hand to see how well it is balanced.
You get the findings and the price before anything is touched. Parts that can safely wait are marked optional, and anything unsafe is explained plainly so the choice is yours.
Springs are wound to the weight of your door, worn rollers and frayed cables are replaced, and loose track is re-anchored and aligned. The common parts are on the truck, so most jobs finish on the first visit.
We run the door under power and by hand, test auto-reverse against an object on the floor, line up the photo eyes and show you how the manual release works.
